Pre-Cancer Compounded Prescription (Cream)

About this medication:

Your healthcare provider has prescribed a custom-compounded medication designed to support your treatment.

This cream combines Fluorouracil and Calcipotriene to target abnormal skin cell growth and reduce inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as actinic keratosis or other skin concerns requiring a combination approach.

Important: This product is a compounded medication, tailored to meet your specific needs as determined by your healthcare provider. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved because they are custom-made for individual patients and not mass-produced.

Precautions

For External Use Only: Do not ingest or apply to eyes, mouth, or open wounds.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Avoid use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically recommended by your provider.

Avoid Sun Exposure: This medication may increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Always use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.

Allergy Alert: Do not use if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.

How to Use

Prepare Your Skin:

  1. Cleanse the affected area with a gentle, non-irritating soap and pat dry.
     

Application Instructions:
 

  1. Use a pea-sized amount of cream (approximately 0.25 mL).

  2. A pea-sized amount should cover an area roughly the size of your palm (approximately 6–8 square inches).

  3. Gently apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area, avoiding healthy skin if possible.

  4. Rub the cream in lightly until absorbed.
     

Frequency:
 

  1. Use as directed by your healthcare provider (application frequency and duration differs from patient to patient.

  2. Avoid overusing, as this may increase irritation or side effects without improving results.
     

Post-Application:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream or use gloves (if available).

  2. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage unless instructed by your provider.

Tips

  • Be Consistent: Apply the cream as directed. If your provider has given specific instructions, follow them closely.

  • Moisturize if Needed: If dryness or irritation occurs, use Vaseline.

  • Avoid Irritants: Do not use other medicated skin products or exfoliants on the treated area unless approved by your provider.

  • Protect Your Skin: Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

What to Expect

  • Initial Reactions: Redness, peeling, and mild irritation are normal signs that the medication is working.

  • Results: Visible improvement may take several weeks dependant on the skin area(s) being treated and the nature of the pre-cancer skin cells.

  • Stopping Treatment: Follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations on treatment duration to achieve the best results.

Side Effects

Common:

  • Redness, dryness, itching, peeling, or mild irritation.
     

Stop Use and Contact Your Provider If:

  • Severe burning, swelling, or blistering occurs.

  • You experience symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, hives, or swelling).

Disposal

Dispose of unused or expired medication at a drug take-back site. If unavailable, mix the solution with an unappealing substance (e.g., coffee grounds), seal it in a plastic bag, and dispose of it in your household trash.
